More About Ehlers-Danlos

Way back in January (three months ago to the day), I had an idea of writing a bunch of posts that would serve as a backstory about some of my health issues. I did one post and then got sidetracked with work and other things. Here’s post #2 about me and Ehlers-Danlos.

I could go in to a long story about what Ehlers-Danlos was like in my college years, and there definitely were a lot of ups and downs (literally). During my Freshman and Sophomore year, it wasn’t all that bad. It definitely limited my activities, and I certainly had plenty of dislocations and falls, but overall felt mostly okay. Right before my junior year, I had a bike accident that made my knee troubles and Ehlers-Danlos issues a huge part of my college experience.

My rough junior year was one of the main reasons I had to leave college after my junior year. I had plans to go back to school, but due to medical bills and the debt I accumulated going to the college I did, I haven’t made it back yet.

Geek Challenge: Favorite Geek Movie

While it’s a bit tricky for me to narrow down my list of Favorite Geek TV Shows, it’s not hard at all for me to name my Favorite Geek Movie. It’s Contact (affiliate) with Jodie Foster and Matthew McConaughey.

There are many things I love about this movie. It’s based on a wonderful book by Carl Sagan, but it’s different enough from the book to make it unique. It has some brilliant scenery in the film. I find it great how it mixes in real news clip from Clinton and other people, that were about different things, and makes them part of the story.

The SETI program has always fascinated me. I don’t know if there are extraterrestrials, but like a couple people say in the movie, “If we are alone, it sure would be a lot of wasted space.”

Geek Challenge: Favorite TV Show Series

I’m a pretty big fan of sci-fi television shows, and trying to narrow them down to just one is quite difficult. I decided I’d share several …

Favorite TV Show Growing Up: I loved the V: The Original TV Miniseries (affiliate link) TV show. I know that many considered it pretty campy, but that’s what I loved about it. I also loved the horror aspect of it and when they ate the rats, I would totally get freaked out.

In college, I was absolutely hooked on Star Trek: The Next Generation (affiliate). Most of the shows had aired before college, but they re-played the episodes every night and a good friend and I would meet up and watch the shows. I was never a fan of the original series with William Shatner, but I loved Patrick Stewart, Wil Wheaton, Brent Spiner, Jonathan Frakes and several of the other characters.

Lately, there have been so many shows I really loved — Eureka, Battlestar Gallatica, Stargate SG1, Stargate Atlantis (a bit iffy on Stargate: Universe), and many others. Probably my favorite is Torchwood. I’ve never watched much of the Doctor Who series, but I love Torchwood (affiliate) and can’t wait for the next set of episodes.
