My ancestors: Rebecca J Faulkner

Of my all great, great grandparents, Rebecca J is the one that know the least about. I know that Rebecca was born in Tennessee sometime around 1848. By 1880, she was married to Jefferson Faulkner and they had 5 children.

Other than that, I have very little information. She doesn’t show up on the 1870 census with Jefferson, and by the 1900 census Jefferson is a widow.

My ancestors: Jefferson Faulkner

Jefferson Faulkner is my great, great grandfather. He was born in 1837 in Tennessee and he died in 1903 in Muldrow, Oklahoma. He was married to Rebecca and they had 5 children.

What I know:

  • Jefferson was born in Tennessee.
  • Jefferson lived in Kentucky for most of his life. He lived in Indian Territory for awhile and lived in Oklahoma shortly before his death.

What I don’t know:

  • I know from census records and other documents that Jefferson was born in 1837 in Tennessee, but I don’t have any additional details other than that.
  • I know that he lived in Kentucky during the Civil War, but haven’t been able to find any specific records about his service. There is a very famous Jefferson Faulkner that was in the Civil War during that time that makes searching for a less-famous Jefferson Faulkner a bit difficult.
  • I’m trying to find where he’s buried.

My ancestors: Charity J

Charity J is my great, great grandmother. She was born about 1827 in Virginia and died June 18, 1996. She was married to Archibald Gosnell and they had one child.

What I know:

  • Charity was married in 1862 to Archibald Gosnell.
  • She died in 1896.

What I don’t know:

  • I have not been able to find much information about Charity J before her marriage to Archibald Gosnell.
  • I don’t have a specific birth date or birth place.

My ancestors: Archibald M Gosnell

Archibald M Gosnell is my great, great grandfather. He was born May 1828 in Lawrence, Tennessee and died July 12, 1906. On some records he’s listed as Archelaus Gosnell.

He was married three times: Sarah J. Carter was his first wife; Charity J was his second wife (and my great, great grandmother), and Louisa W. Snow was his third wife.

What I know:

  • He was born in Tennessee and lived in Missouri for awhile. After the Civil War, he moved to Arkansas. He lived in Arkansas until his death.
  • He served in the 5th Regiment Infantry of the Missouri State Guard during the Civil War: Link to his war record is here.
