My ancestors: John Alfred Weatherley

John Alfred Weatherley is my great, great grandfather. He was married to Elizabeth Hopper and they had 10 children. He was born in 1851 in Dartford, England and died on October 16, 1915 in Dartford, Kent, England. I only have two great, great grandparents who never lived in the US — John and his wife Elizabeth.

What I know:

  • John Alfred always lived in Dartford, Kent, England
  • He worked as a gardener

My ancestors: Rebecca J Faulkner

Of my all great, great grandparents, Rebecca J is the one that know the least about. I know that Rebecca was born in Tennessee sometime around 1848. By 1880, she was married to Jefferson Faulkner and they had 5 children.

Other than that, I have very little information. She doesn’t show up on the 1870 census with Jefferson, and by the 1900 census Jefferson is a widow.

My ancestors: Jefferson Faulkner

Jefferson Faulkner is my great, great grandfather. He was born in 1837 in Tennessee and he died in 1903 in Muldrow, Oklahoma. He was married to Rebecca and they had 5 children.

What I know:

  • Jefferson was born in Tennessee.
  • Jefferson lived in Kentucky for most of his life. He lived in Indian Territory for awhile and lived in Oklahoma shortly before his death.

What I don’t know:

  • I know from census records and other documents that Jefferson was born in 1837 in Tennessee, but I don’t have any additional details other than that.
  • I know that he lived in Kentucky during the Civil War, but haven’t been able to find any specific records about his service. There is a very famous Jefferson Faulkner that was in the Civil War during that time that makes searching for a less-famous Jefferson Faulkner a bit difficult.
  • I’m trying to find where he’s buried.

My ancestors: Maude Weatherley

Maude Weatherley is my great grandmother. She was born March 4, 1878 in Missouri and died July 9, 1918 in Lone Oak, Oklahoma.

What I know:

  • She was born in Missouri, lived in Arkansas and spent most of her adult life being a farmer’s wife in Oklahoma.
  • She had 9 children.

What I’d like to know:

  • I don’t have a copy of the birth certificate or the death record.

My Ancestors: George Albert Faulkner

George Albert Faulker is my great grandfather. He was born February 22, 1872 in Kentucky and died June 19, 1960 in Metropolis, Illinois. He is buried next to his first wife in Muldrow, Oklahoma.

What I know:

  • George was born in Kentucky and lived in Kentucky through most of his childhood.
  • In his early 20s, he was living in Arkansas.
  • He married Maude Weatherley in 1897 and they had 9 children. After Maude died, he remarried Mabel Claire Britton.
  • He spent quite a bit of his adult life as a farmer in Oklahoma — including living in the Indian Territory of the Cherokee nation.

What I’d like to know:

  • I haven’t been able to find a specific birth record for him. I have his birth date from the marriage index, and I have him listed on the 1880 census. But, I don’t have a birth certificate.
  • I’d like to know why he lived in the Cherokee Nation Indian Territory.
  • I’d like to find a copy of his obituary.
